How does the Socs perception of Johnny change after he saves the children from the burning building? How is he becoming an Insider?

In the beginning the Socs thought Johnny was ugly, nasty, dirty and stupid. But when he saved the children from the church he became a hero. The Socs thought he was tough to save the children from a burning building and thought he was brave. When he was in Hospital the socs felt sorry for him. Johnny had 3rd degree burns. He came out in the newspaper. He was becoming a Insider.
